Senior Scientist

Do you have an inquisitive nature?  Are you keen to help shape our groundwater sciences work programme for the future?

This is an opportunity for you to play a vital role in one of the country’s largest groundwater science teams, helping to advance our understanding of Canterbury’s groundwater systems.  We are passionate about groundwater science and are committed to providing the highest quality science to stakeholders inside and outside of the organisation.

We have two permanent openings. All two positions are at the Scientist or Senior Scientist level, and all are based in Christchurch.

As a Senior Scientist, you will bring:

  • advanced technical experience in hydrogeological processes and/or groundwater chemistry
  • experience with supporting high-quality resource management decisions
  • high level of communication skills allowing you to interpret complex scientific data for community groups and key decision makers; telling the science story to the varied needs and experience of your audience
  • a relevant post-graduate qualification and at least five years of relevant work experience

As a Scientist you will bring:

  • solid technical experience with an understanding of hydrogeological processes and/or groundwater chemistry
  • good communication and relationship building skills
  • a master’s degree in a relevant field with two years of professional experience or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with five years of professional experience

For these positions you will have a collaborative “can do” approach, a passion for science and a commitment to your own ongoing professional development.  Knowledge of groundwater chemistry, groundwater modelling, data management and / or scripting languages would be a plus.
