Chief Executive Officer

Based in central Wellington, the Meat Industry Association (MIA) of New Zealand is a voluntary trade association representing New Zealand meat processors, marketers and exporters. The MIA acts and advocates on behalf of its members and provides advice on economic, trade policy, market access, employment relations, business compliance costs and technical and regulatory issues facing the industry. The MIA also provides whole of industry services to its members in the areas of innovation and halal processing.

 

MIA is seeking to appoint a passionate, energetic and capable leader with knowledge of issues relating to the primary sector who will provide strategic leadership and overall management of the organisation’s operational activities. 

 

Working closely with the Board, this role offers an interesting mix of advocacy, policy leadership and operational management as well as the chance to service a major sector of the economy.

 

This is the first time in 12 years that the Chief Executive position has been recruited, and thus it represents an exciting and rare opportunity to apply your sound leadership and business management skills to a challenging, stimulating and highly rewarding role.

 

Person Profile:

  • Proven ability to consistently achieve organisational goals at an executive level
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and operationally
  • Experience in the provision of high-level policy advice and advocacy
  • Knowledge of government structures and the processes of public policy formulation
  • Familiarity with strategic management in the primary sector would be advantageous
  • A track record of success in, and commitment to, building and maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated financial and people management expertise
  • A consultative and open style with a ‘no surprises’ approach
  • Very highly developed written and oral communication skills
