Mind and Body Consultants operate as an independent business entity within the Emerge Aotearoa Group. Mind and Body's vision is for a world in which all people can live flourishing lives. Mind and Body has over 10 years experience working in the Like Minds, Like Mine field, and is known as a consumer-led organisation in the mental health field.

Position purpose

'Like Minds, Like Mine' is a national initiative focused on reducing stigma and discrimination related to mental distress. Like Minds aims to create a socially inclusive New Zealand that is free of stigma and discrimination towards people with experience of mental illness. This newly created role will be working closely with the Programme Manager and Delivery Lead for the Two+ ReTHINK Like Minds, Like Mine (2+RLMLM) initiative, the Facilitator is responsible for promoting and delivering workshop packages for Social Housing and Education Providers in the North Island, which results in sustainable, inclusive behaviours in the targeted settings.

The opportunity is part-time (20 hours per week) until 31 December 2020.

Sound like you? Ideally you would need to be someone who:

  • Has lived experience of using mental health or addictions services
  • Understands and is committed to the principles of mental health promotion
  • Is committed to Tiriti o Waitangi and developing strong networks with kaupapa Māori providers, local iwi and hapu
  • Has the ability to reflect critically on own experience of mental illness and recovery and make valid generalisations based on those reflections. Understands different philosophical approaches to mental health and their social consequences
  • Has a number of relevant and strong networks established within the Mental Health and Addictions sector
  • Has networks in the social housing or education sector
  • Has cultural diversity - Is culturally connected. Values diversity. Can naturally work alongside Maori and Pasifika
  • Has some fluency in Te Reo Maori or a Pasifika language

In order to be considered for this role, it is essential that you meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience of working with Maori and/or Pacific communities and with Maori and/or Pasifika health models
  • Possesses excellent customer service and relationship management skills
  • Experience of facilitating workshops
  • Knowledge of and effective strategies in managing stress and maintaining wellbeing of self and others
  • Intermediate user of MS Office applications
  • Full clean driver's licence
  • Able to travel to workshops (e.g. air flight) and meet changing schedules if required
