Analyst - Strategy, Analytics and Reporting

STRATEGY, ANALYTICS and REPORTING

Who we are

Turning 150 years old this year, the University of Otago is New Zealand's first and oldest University. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and a well-established national and international reputation. It is also one of New Zealand's largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of $1.6 billion and 4,000 full time equivalent staff based in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill.

Strategy, Analytics and Reporting (SAR) is a new office formed to provide strategically focused corporate advice, insights and reporting to the University's senior leadership team and the wider University community. The core tasks of this Office include the development and implementation of strategic planning; provision of analysis and insights to inform decision-making; and provision of reports to internal and external stakeholders, particularly those related to student enrolments and related government funding.

About the role

We are seeking a diverse range of people to fill three Analyst roles in the newly formed SAR team. The job description covers all three roles, but we are flexible as to the portfolio of responsibility assigned to each team member. In broad terms, we are seeking people who have the skills to fulfil at least one of the following functions:

  • Reporting and Compliance - assisting with statutory reporting related to student enrolments and selected other activities; data maintenance activities; assisting, compiling, cleaning and reporting data.
  • Analytics and Insights - assisting with computational modelling and statistical analysis; data extraction, cleaning and transformation; marketing intelligence.
  • Analytics and Insights - marketing intelligence; assisting with UniForum and other benchmarking; international rankings.

Whilst individuals will be assigned responsibility for specific functions, a supportive, collaborative team environment is expected where over time staff will contribute to the portfolios of the wider SAR team.

These services support and inform programs, initiatives, projects, policy and decision making. You will support the provision of advice and insights that advance the interests of the University.

The role is part of a team flexibly providing analytical and reporting services across the University. A client-focused, continuous improvement and service excellence delivery orientation is critical to success in this role.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A tertiary level or other recognised qualification appropriate to the role.
  • Proven experience in the collection, cleaning, reporting and analysis of data and information.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a range of data management and analysis tools, methodologies, software and systems.
  • Analytical aptitude.

You will need to be comfortable positively engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders. Ability to work well in a team and good interpersonal skills are also important.

Further details

These are permanent positions. Candidates seeking both full-time and part-time work (minimum 0.6 FTE) are encouraged to apply.

We offer competitive salary, five weeks' annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation scheme, and the ability to achieve real work/life balance. Applications from candidates with Māori and Pacific backgrounds or strong competencies in these areas are warmly encouraged.

Applications quoting reference number 1901803 will close on Thursday, 26 September 2019.
