Event On-Course Coordinator, Round the Bays 2020

Sport Wellington’s purpose is to provide region wide leadership to the sport and active recreation community wherever they are in the region.  We aim for everyone in the greater Wellington region to have a life-long environment in sport and active recreation. 

Sport Wellington is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and capable person to join their events team on a fixed term contract until 28th February 2020. Reporting to the Event Director, the Event On-Course Coordinator is an essential member of the team, assisting with the successful delivery of the annual Wellington Round the Bays 2020 Fun run/walk. 

 

Key tasks of this role include:  

  • Working with traffic management suppliers to coordinate road closures for the event 

  • Creating comprehensive signage plans for race route 

  • Securing and coordinating on-course entertainment and activations 

  • Communicating with local businesses and residents to distribute information and provide advice 

  • Testing radio coverage throughout the race route 

  • Liaising closely with the Event Volunteer Coordinator to ensure correct numbers of volunteer marshals are recruited, inducted and trained for the event  

  • Conducting safety checks of the race route and overseeing smooth operational delivery on event day 

 

The ideal candidate will be an intelligent, confident self-starter who has solid event experience and is energetic, enthusiastic and able to work seamlessly with the Sport Wellington events team. 

Strong interpersonal facilitation and communication skills are essential, as are leadership qualities and experience working with professionals and volunteers. Working knowledge of current event management best practices would be an advantage. 

 

Excellent written English is a must. The candidate will need a full, clean driver’s license
