Maintenance Worker (Invercargill)

Human Connections Group has partnered exclusively with Presbyterian Southland Support (“PSS”) for the appointment of a Maintenance Worker based in Invercargill to service all PSS Southland facilities and sites.

The Organisation

Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) is a Charitable Trust that provides a range of aged care and social services. Their services are available to all people in the Southland community, no matter their age, gender, religion or background.

PSS encompasses two major community services, operating throughout Southland and the Wakatipu: Family Works – which offers a range of social services from counselling through to parenting programmes; and Enliven – services for the older people in both rest home care and retirement living.

PSS is one of seven federated Presbyterian Support organisations nationally and collectively; Presbyterian Support is one of the largest social service providers in New Zealand.

The Role

This role will provide caretaking and maintenance services across the land, buildings, plant and equipment of our PSS Southland facilities and sites. We are looking for a maintenance superstar to carry out preventative/ongoing emergency maintenance and consistently monitor Building Warrant of Fitness checks in line with PSS maintenance programmes. This role will ensure all work is carried out on time, within set timeframes and budgets and in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and requirements.

The role is envisaged to be part time, 32 hours per week, flexible between Monday to Sunday. It is a permanent position with an on-call component and the ability to work weekend shifts is a must.

The Person

You are a proactive person who enjoys working with the elderly. You have trade qualifications and experience from a similar caretaking/maintenance role. You are comfortable relating to people from all walks of life and are able to communicate, connect and build trusting relationships with those you interact with. You are committed to delivering excellent service with the ability to carry out all levels of maintenance work from a dripping tap to a burst hot water cylinder.

Key attributes for this role:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a maintenance/caretaking role
  • Demonstrable hot water boiler experience
  • Trade qualification desirable but not necessary
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and requirements.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage specific maintenance schedules
  • Flexible and adaptable, true ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder
  • Good listener
  • Pro-active, thoughtful and considerate
  • Professional and confidential

Successful candidates for this role will be required to provide evidence of New Zealand working rights and will undertake pre-employment testing as well as a Ministry of Justice criminal history check.

Closing Date: Sunday 22 September 2019 @ 5pm.
