ProCare is the largest network of primary healthcare professionals in New Zealand. We represent more than 180 general practices across the greater Auckland region, providing support and treatment to more than 1 in every 6 New Zealanders. We are also one of the largest providers of mental wellness and psychological services and are piloting some of the most innovative methods in mental health support in the country.

We play an integral role in shaping NZ's overall Health landscape and pride ourselves on being a progressive and innovative provider of expert clinical and business support. We take our accountability for the health of our more than 820,000 patients seriously and we have developed some of the most sophisticated tools and understanding of their health needs and utilisation available in the sector. Of this population, more than 250,000 are from disadvantaged groups, with more than 90,000 Māori, who experience significant inequitable health outcomes. Understanding these disparities we have invested heavily in our Equity resources and prioritised the organisations dedication to Health Equity.

The Māori Community Engagement & Strategy Advisor is part of the Equity team and is responsible for providing strategic advice, leadership and supporting the Head of Equity and Māori Health Outcomes to implement and deliver against the Equity programme of work.

This role plays a crucial part in helping the business to achieve their strategies through effective partnerships whilst leading the implementation of ProCare Māori Health Strategy through the development, and review, of the ProCare Annual Māori Health Plan.

Our preferred person is likely to have:

  • 5-10 years' cultural community engagement experience, preferably in health sector
  • Demonstrable success in cultural leadership, engagement and/or management based roles
  • Understanding of the drivers and politics of the NZ health and well-being sector
  • Established networks, in-depth knowledge and lived experience about Māori equity issues including but not limited to links to Whānau Ora providers in Auckland and/or nationally
  • Significant experience and demonstrated success in managing internal and external relationships with a variety of audiences
  • Experience working within organisations to develop internal capability to improve outcomes for populations who experience inequitable health outcomes
  • Understanding of Māori models of care, Māori Outcomes Frameworks and Māori Commissioning Frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare cogent and persuasive written material, including report writing and presentations for senior management and boards
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, and ability to advocate and communicate effectively in a range of environments
  • Proven ability to deliver projects through to completion

We offer market leading remuneration and benefits, we have a fantastic team, and wider company environment to work in.
