Manufacturing Engineer (Fixed Term) - New Production Facilities

The opportunity
HamiltonJet has exciting plans to develop a new manufacturing facility in Christchurch, future proofing the organisation and delivering on a number of key strategic manufacturing objectives including improved lean production efficiencies and health & safety outcomes.
The Manufacturing Engineer – New Factory will be part of a team that is responsible for the end to end development and implementation of certain manufacturing processes associated with the new factory.  Hamilton Jet has a wide range of manufacturing processes contained within its current factory and its future factory, that include sand casting, investment casting, machining, welding & fabrication, painting, mechanical and electronic assembly
Your role
This Fixed Term contract will primarily focus on the new factory and associated projects, including the following;
  • Research new process equipment options and suppliers
  • Develop process designs, layouts, investment cost estimates and quantify efficiency improvements
  • Develop transition plans from existing factory to new factory
  • Author machinery, tooling and equipment functional requirements (bid documents) for the purpose of conducting quoting/sourcing of new or modified machinery, tooling and equipment.
  • Analyse bid documents and recommend/justify the best supplier
  • Raise purchase orders for any new or modified machinery, tooling and equipment
  • Manage the suppliers of new or modified machinery/tooling/equipment through all phases of the new factory project (from purchase order to commissioning)
  • Refine and execute transition plans from existing factory to new factory
  • Technical support of staff both operational, engineering and maintenance post commissioning
  • Ensure that equipment and utilities are fully compliant to the relevant standards either with the local or regional authorities including but not limited to OH&S, HSNO, BWOF
About you
To be successful you will require
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering field. This role as it involves in depth understanding of complex processes.
  • 7+ years minimum post qualification experience in medium to heavy Mechanical Product Manufacturing Environment.
  • Good level of competency in Solidworks and Autocad or similar front line CAD packages.
  • Proven track record in Managing Engineering Projects: Construction Projects and Plant and Equipment Projects in the field of Casting, Machining and Assembly are preferred.
  • Can clearly demonstrate success in delivery of Projects to plan and keeping within cost estimates.
  • Ability to manage contractors and achieve high standards of safety.
  • Resilient and able to adopt established Lean manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Experience in Mechanical Plant design and demonstrate innovation in design solutions and ideas.
  • Must possess Good Teamwork Skills and be able to Motivate and Lead from the front.
