Advisor - Issues Management

About us

Funding and Programme Delivery is a key group within the new Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. We fund and partner initiatives to deliver more permanent public housing and affordable rental supply. We also spearhead the provision of programmes that are focused on supporting people with a housing need, including those who are homeless.  Ultimately, our Group (like our colleagues across the Ministry) is all about creating thriving communities where everyone has a place to call home.

About the role

This is an important role within the Funding and Programme Delivery Group as you will be working directly on issues as they arise within public housing, transitional housing and the full spectrum of the programmes that are funded by the Group, including Housing First.  You will actively work across the Group and other areas within the Ministry to manage the issues as they arise, communicate with relevant parties, support the efficient resolution of issues identified and look for ways to more effectively address such issues in the future.

About You

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills especially written, the ability to liaise with people at all levels and form effective working relationships across all groups at HUD and with a wide range of external stakeholders. Experience with stakeholder management and proven success working in challenging and dynamic environments will be an advantage. Ideally the successful applicant will also have experience, or an understanding of, the public and transitional housing environment. 

Your background will include:

  • Proven expertise handling crises/issues real time, either for clients or organisations
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced, results-oriented agency environment
  • Professionally mature with sound judgment and the ability to gain immediate credibility  
  • Adept at handling adversity and experience challenging reporters/editors to get desired results for HUD and its stakeholders
  • Strategic and creative thinker when it comes to issues management specifically and communications in general
  • Experience or ability to acquire experience in providing advice to clients and in working with suppliers
  • Natural talent to connect with people and build rapport.
