Strategy Advisor

 

The Strategic Programmes team manages portfolios and programmes covering Environment Canterbury’s work on hazards, regional transport, urban development and air quality.

  • We serve as the strategic planners and navigators of the Council’s vision: ‘to facilitate sustainable development in the Canterbury Region’.

  • We undertake strategy work (including discharging statutory responsibilities) and report regularly on our portfolios and programmes.

  • We work with our leadership team, councillors, colleagues and the community to achieve better outcomes for Canterbury.

  • If it is risky, complex or political – we are there!

We are looking for a Strategy Advisor who is interested in a fixed term role with the Strategic Programmes team through to the end of February 2020. You’ll have the opportunity to work across the team’s portfolios: Hazards, Risk & Resilience (incl. Climate Change)Transport & Urban Development and Air Quality.

We are working on some complex issues for the region that need innovative strategies and work programmes to deliver common sense, pragmatic solutions. In your role, you’ll have the opportunity to help develop and deliver these strategies and work programmes.

We want to hear from you if you have the following skills, experience and qualities:

  • An interest in the areas covered by the team’s portfolios and a willingness to grow your knowledge across these areas.
  • A strong relationship focus and intellect is needed, and the courage to ask ‘why’?
  • The ability to work effectively with colleagues and bring some new ways of doing things to get better results.
  • A strategic brain with a good amount of pragmatism as our programmes and approaches need to be effective and efficient.
  • A clear and confident communicator.
