Lecturer - Foundation Skills (Rimutaka Prison)

The Universal College of Learning is a government-funded Institute of Technology, with campuses in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Wairarapa and Levin. It meets the needs of local communities and industry by providing tertiary level training to over 6,400 students each year through a wide range of programmes from entry level certificates and foundation courses to diplomas’ degrees and opportunities in post graduate study.

As part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring students and communities to succeed, UCOL's Engineering and Applied Technologies Faculty is seeking a highly motivated lecturer, or a suitably qualified professional who wishes to support the delivery of the New Zealand Certificate of Foundation Skills (Applied Sport and Exercise Pathway) Level 2.

As a member of UCOL’s School of Construction and Engineering you will have the ability to inspire others to pursue and achieve their dreams by offering them quality teaching, mentoring and motivation. You will engage, support and motivate the students to achieve their Certificate.

This fixed term (ends 10 April 2020), fulltime position is based at Rimutaka Prison, Upper Hutt, and is 'behind the wire’. You will be given a full induction to the Prison environment. The programme is delivered in partnership with the Lowie Foundation “Kick for the Seagulls” initiative being offered within prisons around New Zealand. All delivery and assessment resources are provided to you and you will have full support from faculty staff. The programme recognises the importance of applying core capabilities such as confidence, basic knowledge and skills, and literacy and numeracy using an exercise and sport context.

You will have diverse skills including a relevant qualification. It would be a strong advantage if you also held the NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (NZCALNE), the NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (NZCAT) or equivalent and unit 4098 workbased assessor, however these are not a requirement.

At UCOL we embrace diversity, talent and performance, and provide our staff with an extensive range of opportunities to develop intellectually, professionally and personally.

Applicants for this position must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and will be required to undergo pre-employment checks; including completing New Zealand Police Vetting as part of the Children's Act 2014 and a pre-employment drug test for this safety sensitive role. As this position is for teaching at a New Zealand Department of Corrections facility you will also have to complete a Ministry of Justice (MoJ) check.

Applications Close: 30-August-2019
