This is a unique opportunity to be involved in something new. The High Impact Innovation Team is a Justice Sector initiative with a number of projects that are improving public safety and getting better outcomes across the justice sector. Bail Support Services is one of these projects and has been running successful pilots in Wellington, Christchurch and Manukau Districts.

Bail Support Services has been established to ensure that courts are given the best information about safe and timely bail proposals. If granted Bail Support Services provides the support necessary for defendants to succeed on bail.

Bail Support Officers help provide impartial, evidence based, information to the court on the defendants’ bail proposal and identify any social needs that could be addressed if in the community. Once a defendant is granted bail, Bail Support Officers have ongoing contact and support to ensure defendants are able to comply with their conditions and succeed on bail. Bail Support Officers may also facilitate access to agencies that can assist in this.

We’re looking for people who’re passionate about making a real difference for defendants and are comfortable working in a project based, dynamic pilot environment.

To be successful you will -

  • have great communication and people skills so you can relate to people from different backgrounds, cultures and ages
  • be highly motivated and self-managing with excellent time management and organisation skills
  • have good attention to detail, able to gather a wide range of information and able to demonstrate sound professional decision making
  • be resilient, able to keep your composure and persevere to achieve results
  • be self-aware and empathetic
