Student Ranger - Northern Regional Parks

A paid internship - providing you with relevant career experience through the summer months at our Northern Regional Parks. Shakespeare Regional Park which needs a student ranger was just recently recognised as one of the best parks in the world by winning Silver in the 2019 International Large Urban Parks Awards. This global acknowledgment largely reflects the excellent work of the council’s Regional Park Rangers and Parks staff.If your studies would benefit from this experience, a summer with the Auckland Council could be the best summer ever. Auckland’s Regional Parks play a fundamental role in preserving our unique and iconic landscapes across the region. Receiving up to 6 million visits a year, they are home to many rare and threatened ecosystems and native species.This year we are on the hunt for 14 Student Summer Rangers to join our Regional Parks team for a 3 month internship! 5 summer rangers will be based at either Long BayShakespear,  Tawharanui or Wenderholm Regional Park. Our Student Park Rangers are a key part in facilitating safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation and education experiences while conserving and protecting cultural, natural, and heritage resources.

If your studies would benefit from real-world experience and you are currently studying in the related fields of conservation, environmental management, ecology, cultural and NZ heritage, tourism, landscaping, horticulture, recreation, and agriculture, we want to hear from you!

 

Based at one of our Regional Parks located within the Auckland Region, the rangers will assist with customer service, bylaw control and maintenance of the parks across the network. You will be provided with basic accommodation however you will need to cover your travel expenses.  A clean and full NZ driver’s license, with competent manual driving skills, is essential.

These positions will work full-time from 13th of  November 2019 until 14th of February 2020.  It will include working on a roster covering weekends and public holidays, including the Christmas and New Year period.The regional parks are passionately maintained and cared for by Park Rangers, volunteers and local communities. Children Act 2014.
