Employment lawyer

Our litigation practice in Wellington is looking for someone with employment law expertise to join our busy employment team.

The team advises medium to large corporate employers and public sector entities on their rights and responsibilities under New Zealand employment law, including the Employment Relations Act, the Holidays Act, the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Privacy Act, and related legislation.  A significant portion of the team’s work involves advising on the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions, outsourcings and other commercial transactions – working closely with our corporate and property departments in these high profile transactions.  Our employment practice has a strong reputation for finding commercial and innovative solutions to often complex employment and industrial issues and is often praised for its approachable style and practical advice.

Our ideal candidate will have experience within an employment law and/or workplace health and safety practice (a combination of employment and general litigation or a similar combination will also be considered). Excellent communication, consultative people skills and pragmatic thinking will be essential to deliver the highest quality legal advice and assistance to our clients.  In return, we will provide you with challenging opportunities as part of the Bell Gully team that sets the standard as New Zealand’s leading law firm.

The successful candidate will enjoy a wide range of employment and health and safety work, including running mediations and Employment Relations Authority hearings, appearing in the Employment Court, advising our clients on employment and industrial disputes and processes, and advising on WorkSafe investigations.  Our lawyers are given opportunities to take ownership of and lead employment matters, and operate autonomously.

You may be in New Zealand looking for a change or overseas thinking about coming home.  Please apply now if you would like to strengthen and advance your career as a legal expert and work alongside some of New Zealand's most talented legal minds, doing innovative and often high-profile work for an interesting and varied client list.

At Bell Gully we seek out and develop talent regardless of culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political views or physical ability.  We encourage and value diversity and see this as a source of competitive advantage.
