System Control Manager

PowerNet is an electrical distribution business, which designs, builds, maintains and operates electricity networks across much of the lower South Island of New Zealand. We are the fourth largest electricity network in New Zealand, with around 280 employees and delivering power to over 70, 000 consumers.

We have an outstanding opportunity to join the PowerNet team in the role of System Control Manager. As System Control Manager, you will be responsible for the leadership of our team who operate our 24/7 central control room based here in Invercargill.

The role has a focus on building a strong culture within the team, leading and implementing new technology, driving a safety-first culture and managing and leading change within System Control

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership of a infrastructure control room (ideally electrical)
  • High level and understanding of current Health and Safety legislation
  • Moved up through multiple leadership roles over 15-20 years
  • Proven business and commercial acumen
  • Experience in supporting a geographically dispersed team
  • Confident in delivering change management
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement framework
  • Passion for technology and implementation of new technology

As an individual, you have the following attributes

  • Have previously solved the challenge of improving culture with an organization
  • Confidence and in control of shaping a career path and continued progression
  • Pragmatic, flexible and adaptable
  • Professional verbal delivery skills
  • High level of written work
  • Comfortable prioritizing  with multiple issues that need solving

If your career has been anchored around leadership from the infrastructure industry and from a control room environment then we would love to hear from you.

You might be an experienced electrical engineer wanting to move into a leadership role.

No matter what, you will need to love technology and naturally want to use technology rather than status quo of human task repetition. We need to have a leader who can drive the outage management system for PowerNet into the future

We also need someone who is super organised and likes things to be nailed down to the right detail for training people. Training our people is a big piece of work and the perfect candidate will have an active and optimized training programme in place for our new staff.
