Working as part of the Network Services team based in Te Kuiti, this role requires a multi-skilled, reliable and physically fit Underground Specialist who will enjoy getting stuck in to get the job done and thrive in a high pressure environment where no two days are the same. 

Technical skills are only part of the story. If you can bring along a great attitude, a sense of humour and evidence of a strong commitment to Health & Safety this will go a long way towards you being the successful applicant.

The Role

Key responsibilities include cable laying, assisting our line mechanics in line construction, maintenance work and erection of distribution equipment. You will have experience operating machinery and heavy vehicles along with an ability to apply common sense thinking to problem solving.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • NCEA level 2 – or equivalent work experience 
  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar role 
  • Full Class 1 & 2
  • Experience with underground works, trenching, foundation preparation
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and at times in a high stress environment 
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy weights up to 20kg
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and motivate self to meet deadlines 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with an emphasis on communicating well with others (both internal and external) 
  • Tracks and wheels, Forklift licence – desirable
  • Traffic Controller/STMS – (desirable)
  • An uncompromising approach to health and safety

On-going training and development along with career advancement opportunities will be available to the successful candidate in this role.
