The Role

We have a position available for a Land Management Advisor. We are looking for an enthusiastic new team member for a full time permanent opportunity with the flexibility to choose your working location - either Whanganui, Marton, Taihape. 

As a Land Management Advisor, you will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver organisational strategies and environmental initiatives including: 

  • Soil and land use recommendations 
  • Design and costing of erosion control programmes 
  • Supervision of contractors and farmers in pole delivery, pole planting, pole pruning and thinning
  • Monitoring and auditing Whole Farm Plan (WFP) works 
  • Working with primary industry groups to promote good management practice and wise land use

About You

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications to degree level and preferably at least 2 years’ experience or  
  • Relevant undergraduate certificate or diploma and preferably at least 5 years’ experience in a applicable environmental management discipline Experience managing rural contractors 
  • A good understanding of farming and farming practices  
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills  
  • The ability to build strong relationships with a positive and friendly attitude 
  • The ability to self manage and work in a team environment 
  • Familiarity with Horizons’ major work programmes and some knowledge of Local Government processes and procedures  
  • Experience using GIS or other mapping systems would be beneficial
