Crime Reporter - Auckland

If you're a news junkie who climbs out of bed each day with the need to help break big stories then this is the job for you.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for:

  • Crime reporting across Auckland, generating and delivering accurate, exciting and well-written stories of national interest
  • Reacting quickly to breaking news events and confidently reporting from incidents
  • A good track record in breaking exclusive stories
  • Building strong contacts to ensure we get the inside story first
  • Using social media, including Neighbourly and other third parties to drive community and audience
  • Finding the story behind the crime and the ability to speak to those affected by them

This is a fast paced role where no two days are the same. To succeed you will need:

  • Strong journalism skills, including the ability to write and self-edit, take pictures and shoot basic video
  • To be a self-starter, able to work in a sole charge capacity and with confidence in the field
  • A proven record in court reporting, crime features and backgrounders
  • Excellent time management and the ability to juggle several stories at once
  • A strong social media presence
  • The ability to drive and protect a positive, safe and inclusive workplace
