Scouts New Zealand empower more than 14,000 youths a year through adventurous experiences in the outdoors, interacting with others, gaining confidence and having the opportunity to reach their full potential. The organisation is focussed on ensuring that more than 25,000 youths will be enjoying Scouting adventures a year by 2025. To achieve this, Scouts will come from every background, with a place for all, shape their own experiences, and make a positive difference for New Zealand.

As National Chair you will lead the governance of the organisation through both the National Board and National Council. The National Board decides on the policy, future direction and nationwide development of Scouts New Zealand. The National Council is responsible for supporting the work of the National Board and representing the voice of local leaders. It has elected members from each of the five Regions and the National Leaders group and core volunteers group.

You will work closely with the Chief Executive planning and implementing the strategic direction of the Association. You will also have a close relationship with the National Commissioner who, as the lead volunteer responsible for inspiring and motivating volunteers throughout the Movement, provides the Scouting context and direction for the organisation.

This is a critical governance position, and we are searching for an outstanding leader to take up the challenge. In addition to strong governance skills, this board requires a chair with:
  • passion for youth development
  • excellent relationship building and communication skills
  • experience leading growth strategies
  • a belief and support for diversity and inclusion.

Knowledge of Scouts is not necessary however some experience in the Not for Profit sector would also be useful.

This is a voluntary position which involves approximately bi-monthly meetings in Wellington and on occasions throughout New Zealand along with regular interaction and support for the Chief Executive and others. All reasonable travel costs and out of pocket expenses are covered by the Association.

This is an exciting time to join a vibrant growing movement and play a key role in influencing their future direction.
