Design Engineer

The Company:
The leader in the development and manufacture of high-performance foams and composite soft-material components for a vast range of applications, Nexus Performance Foams has manufacturing sites in the central-south area of Auckland.  Their design function provides the crucial link between changing customer demands and the requirements of the in-house production capability. Nexus has a broad customer base and a proven track-record of delivering critical components to products produced both in New Zealand and overseas.
Recent changes in management and the recent acquisition of the company by the Skellerup Group open up a range of opportunities for both the company, and for the successful applicant in this challenging and career-advancing role.

The Role:
Combining design skills, manufacturing and production awareness, and a passion for the continous improvement of product and components, the person in this role will take ownership of three key elements:
  • Prototype design of new and refinement of existing product lines from client specifications
  • Process development and improvement for manufacturing lines
  • Project management and technical support
Once on board and familiar with these key requirements, you will work as a key liaison between the technical sales function and the operations/production function, often being involved in external engagement to conceptualise new products and provide key technical support.  Key relationships will include:
  • Operations and production management
  • The sales team
  • Clients
  • Key suppliers
The efficient and customer centric way in which this role designs and develops customized componentry directly effects Nexus’ ability to win and secure ongoing work.  The successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills, as well as technical proficiency. Lateral thinking and strong problem solving skills are a must.

Requirements:
This role required a genuine interest and capability in design engineering, and an inquisitive and highly conceptual mind.  Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years experience in CAD, Mechanical or Materials Engineering,  and a proven track record.  Excellent and confident communications skills and a desire to engage with the market place are a must.
  • A qualification in mechanical or materials engineering or similar
  • Proved CAD skills (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Creo etc.) and (potentially) exposure to CNC machining
  • Proven eye for detail in delivery & development of systems
This company has an exceptional record for retaining and developing their people over the long term and this excellent opportunity continues the story - a well-rewarded role with plenty of interaction, future prospects and personal development.
