Palmerston North Women’s Refuge provides support and advocacy for women and children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. Women’s Refuge is dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and providing a safe place to stay while decisions about their future are made, or if a woman and her children decided to stay in the community an advocate will walk alongside and empower them to make safe decisions for their future. Women’s Refuge operates a 24 hour crisis telephone line assisted by a roster of volunteers attending the crisis line outside working hours.
As an advocate for Palmerston North Women’s Refuge, you will work within the philosophy of Refuge and the services provided by the Refuge including admitting women/ children to the safehouse and providing on-going support, case management of both safehouse and community women and children, training new collective members, and provide ongoing education in the community concerning family violence.
This role is a Fixed Term Contract for One Year at 40 hours per week working with women at high risk of domestic violence. The successful candidate must be able to engage with people of all cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Exceptional interpersonal skills and self motivation are required to assess and deliver safety plans and needs assessments. The ability to liaise with and refer to other agencies is essential. This position is based in Palmerston North but some travel to other regions will be required.
You will be part of a supportive team of people with a can do attitude. A sense of humour is a must.
