Being a Probation Officer is a very fulfilling role. The difference you make to the lives of others is real, you can see it. Imperative to this role is going to be your ability to communicate confidently and adapt your behaviour to suit a diverse range of people and situations.

Probation Officers play a vital role in making communities safer by effectively managing Offender sentences and orders such as community work, home detention and parole. Probation Officers aim to minimise risk of further harm and offending.

Working closely with Offenders you will make sure that they are meeting the conditions of their sentence or order. You will assess, develop offender plans and monitor their progress against their plan. You will set and maintain boundaries and motivate Offenders to make positive changes.

You must possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a natural ability to influence, manage change and relate to people from different backgrounds and cultures. You will also need to be resilient, able to use your common sense and maturity to achieve positive results within the community.

If you’re a solid communicator, computer literate, and have strong written skills, becoming a Probation Officer could be an excellent career choice for you.
