We are looking for highly skilled people to work in our healthy policies area as part of our health improvement team at Toi Te Ora Public Health. This team strives to support local government, iwi and hapū in adopting policies which will make the healthier choice the easy choice for our communities.

The role involves developing effective relationships and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to address the determinants of health and improve the health of the population living in the Bay of Plenty and Lakes districts, with a particular focus on achieving health equity for Māori with regards to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Key aspects of this role include working closely with local government, iwi and hapū to bring about healthy public policy change on a wide range of policy areas including smokefree, food security, physical activity, transport and the built environment.

You will be knowledgeable of policy and political processes and have an understanding of local government and our region. You will be knowledgeable of kaupapa Māori, aware of relevant health strategies and committed to achieving equity for Māori. You will need to be skilled at communicating a public health perspective both orally and in writing. You will be team orientated, flexible and able to respond to opportunities as well as have project management experience.

A qualification in public health, political science or a related field is preferred. Previous experience in public health and local government engagement or in policy analysis will be advantageous in securing one of these roles.
