The Ministry of Education is improving its support services to children and young people and is looking for a dynamic professional to lead this change.
About the role
This Napier based Ministry of Education role works across Hawke's Bay and Tairāwhiti. You will lead 80 staff and seven direct reports working with 178 schools, 360 ECE, a region with 50,000 young people, multiple agencies including your peers across Police, Health, Oranga Tamariki, RTLB, and other agencies, managing a multi-million dollar budget.
The position is a full-time permanent role reporting to the Director of Education in Hawke's Bay/ Tairawhiti and an integral member of the regional leadership team, requiring travel throughout the region. The role may require for you to act for the Director of Education.
The Manager Learning Support will manage complex relationships through a period of change as we modernise and improve learning support. All whilst overseeing the effective access to child-focused services to ensure all children achieve educational success. They will work with a diverse range of groups including parents, educators, Communities of Learning - Kāhui Ako, health professionals and other agencies to ensure that the right support is delivered at the right time to better support children and young people in need to achieve their educational goals.

Learning Support provides support to children and young people with learning needs. They provide children, their whanau, schools and services with the expertise, programmes and resources needed to enable our children and young people to succeed.
About the person
An experienced manager with a track record of successfully implementing change. Preferably currently working in the education sector or an experienced manager in a similarly sized and complex public service role delivering innovative, quality services. You will have experience and established credibility in engaging with our stakeholders, iwi, Maori, and Pacific Island community.
We are looking for person who has the following:
- Breadth and depth of experience in leadership and leading change to lead the modernising and improving of learning support
- A track record of innovation and a commitment to our inclusive approach to education and to achieving the best outcomes for our children every day
