Contracts & Growth Team Manager

  • Utilise your Legal quals &/or training to head team of Contract Managers

Introduction:
Our client provides support to Researchers and their Principal Investigators across a leading public tertiary institution, so this will be a role to be proud to be part of, as the projects you will work on are inspirational, making a real contribution to society by improving people’s lives!

Reporting to a Director, you will take a vital leadership role in ensuring all research contracts are effectively negotiated and documented in line with policies, whilst also achieving effective growth in both private and public good revenue. Numerous functional relationships both internally and externally exist, and you will be heading a Contracts Management team (each of whom has their own Portfolio). Legal training and a depth of exposure to the research environment, local and international contract (negotiation & drafting), with superb stakeholder management and communication skills will secure this role.

Duties:
Team management

  • To ensure good alignment as to business processes
  • Provide mentoring and direction to your staff (the Contracts Managers)
  • Ensure that Funder/Client issues arising in the course of contracting are dealt with professionally, including those escalated
  • To foster a ‘learning environment’,  sharing knowledge within the team to ensure objectives, development needs etc are recognised
  • Oversee work of direct reports
  • Work on the development of team goals and objectives

Deliverables

  • Ensure relationships between the organisation and relevant Faculties are productive and effective
  • Ensure your Contracts team’s interactions with Funders and Clients is as effective as possible
  • Ensure effective turnaround of new contract opportunities, including working with BDM and Research Programme staff to make sure they know what is required of them for quality opportunities and proposals
  • Excellent stakeholder relationships from funding bodies, government agencies and professional groups.
  • Ongoing improvement

Quality

  • Develop & maintain effective processes to ensure contracts meet internal and external contracting requirements
  • Ensure new projects are contracted appropriately
  • Good quality Funder/Client interactions
  • And that your team operates according to policies & procedures

You:

  • 2-3 years leadership experience
  • Advanced stakeholder management in a service environment
  • 5+ years experience in a research environment
  • Advanced contract negotiation and drafting skills, including international
  • Advanced understanding of negotiating and contracting intellectual property
  • Experience with people development & performance management
  • Risk management
  • Client relationship management
  • Reporting, systems and advanced communication skills – an ‘influencer’
  • Led and managed process improvement projects

Qualifications:

  • A relevant Tertiary Degree, preferably Law, with legal training in Contract law
