Modelling Scientist, Environmental Water Research

Lincoln Agritech is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lincoln University (New Zealand) with its head office based on campus at Lincoln, near Christchurch and a North Island office based at the Ruakura Research Centre in Hamilton.

We have an exciting opportunity for a an enthusiastic and ambitious modelling scientist interested in carrying out leading-edge research and research-based consulting on flow and reactive contaminant transport modelling in the vadose zone - saturated zone - surface water continuum. To be successful in this position, you will have excellent computational skills combined with sound hydrogeological understanding and the desire and capability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team. This role offers significant career development opportunities, with the potential opportunity to advance to Principal Scientist within 5 years.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD in Hydrology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or similar.
  • Five years’ experience in establishing, conducting and managing excellent research and development.
  • Ability to address complex research questions collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop conceptual groundwater models based on sound assessment of various relevant information sources (climate, hydrogeology, geophysics etc.).
  • Techniques to coherently analyse and model water fluxes in the unsaturated zone - saturated zone - surface water continuum at the catchment and sub-catchment scales.
  • Expertise in development, calibration and uncertainty analysis of numerical groundwater models that adequately simulate surface water - groundwater exchanges.
  • Programming/scripting capability (e.g. Python, C++) to develop or adopt innovative modelling approaches in response to specific hydrological and/or hydrogeochemical research questions.
