Junior Graphic Designer

Listen up, Junior Graphic Designers. Weta Workshop's Media & Communications team is calling!

The problem: our graphic design cup runneth over. Your mission: help us stem the tide by providing much-needed design support.

The Junior Graphic Designer will work within the Media & Communications team to develop graphic design solutions for the Weta Workshop House of Brands including our Masterbrand and our sub brands, and departments. This includes, among others, Weta Workshop Studio Tours, Consumer Products, Design Studio, Manufacturing, Weta Gameshop, Location Based Entertainment, Corporate Services and Media & Communications.

In this role you'll:

  • Work to create effective graphic design solutions that are on brand and on brief
  • Follow established brand guidelines to create a broad range of media
  • Collaborate with creative leadership to refine and finalise design solutions
  • Pre-press file setup and quality control

We're looking for someone with:

  • Design experience across multiple areas including print and web
  • 1-2 years working in a studio environment

You'll also have:

  • Strong visual communication skills
  • Solid layout, illustration and typography skills, and a sharp attention to detail
  • Excellent print preparation and proofing skills
  • Ability to concept, develop and create a wide variety of creative assets (print, web, advertising, collateral, etc.) to support marketing and business objectives
  • Strong understanding of branding, layout, colour theory and typography in both print and digital media
  • A knowledge of customer-focused design and UX practices and principals
  • Strong understanding of art/design fundamentals and core principles (space, form, light, surface, line, colour)
  • Expertise in graphic applications such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to think creatively and solve problems
  • Excellent research, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to visually interpret other people's ideas
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to change when requested
  • A keen interest in Sci Fi and Fantasy pop culture, design, architecture, film and gaming
