Management Accountant

An internal promotion has led to an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant within our Finance Department. District councils are complex organisations with many varying and diverse businesses and legislative requirements which means our planning and budgeting is a significant process. This role plays a key part in the preparation of our Annual and Long Term Plans.

This position will also provide day to day financial advice and support across Council and will look at ways to better source and provide key information to the business.

The successful candidate will have planning, budgeting and management accounting experience within a complex organisation, and a high level of business acumen. Strong communication skills and the ability and confidence to provide informed and constructive advice to non-financial stakeholders is required. You must be proactive, enthusiastic and passionate about adding value, not just number crunching.

This role also requires hands on experience in the preparation and analytical review of financial reports, budgets and business plans.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the timely and accurate delivery of monthly management reports and reconciliations including interpretation and explanation of variances
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, budget phasing, and monthly forecasting processes
  • Knowledge and experience of reporting under accounting standards
  • Working collaboratively with budget managers and senior staff to provide key information for the management of financial resources across the organisation
  • Proactively identifying improvements in processes and service delivery.

If you can demonstrate that you are flexible, technically competent, experienced in working with a variety of people and proactive in your approach to the changing legislative environment, this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Whangarei is a district on the rise. It is Northland's only city and largest commercial centre. Nestled between the forest clad hills at the heart of the beautiful Whangarei Harbour, nowhere in the district is more than 40 kilometres away from our spectacular coastline and commuting to WDC's CBD location is a breeze.

At Whangarei District Council we take our reputation as a lifestyle destination seriously and consider a range of flexible working and work/life balance options for those that want to work in a professional and progressive environment while still having the time to take advantage of everything our district has to offer.

With median house prices currently at around $500,000, reputable schools, an outstanding natural environment and great, constantly developing facilities there's a lot that'll make you 'Love it Here!'

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the People and Capability team on: 09 430 4200 or 0800 932 463.
