Do you have a passion for working with children? Have you got a drive to make a positive difference for the Greater Wellington Region? Sport Wellington is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and capable person to join our Community Sport team as the Young People Advisor (0-7). ​​​​​​

Sport Wellington is a charitable regional sports trust with a vision for everyone in the greater Wellington region to have a life-long involvement in sport and active recreation. We believe the first stage of life is so valuable, and it is a crucial area that contributes to achieving our vision. 

Sport Wellington’s purpose is to lead the Wellington region’s sport and active recreation community to enable people to be more physically active.  Our strategic outcomes are:

The Community Sport Team aims to bring together our expertise and the expertise of those we work with, we influence, build networks, advocate and motivate organisations within the greater Wellington region to improve their capability, capacity and performance. Therefore, contributing to the Sport Wellington vision of everyone in the greater Wellington region having a lifelong involvement in sport and active recreation. 

As the Young People Advisor (0-7), you will strengthen the capability, capacity and performance of partner organisations in the greater Wellington region through projects that engage young people aged 0-7 years old, applying a holistic approach, to understand their specific needs and enabling quality experiences. 

Key tasks of this role include:  

  • Increase organisational capability by providing expertise, support, guidance and motivation to community partner organisations 

  • Enhance understanding of child development through a physical context 

  • Developing and maintain relationships with key partner organisations 

  • Ensure effective implementation of key projects, achieving agreed targets and implementing quality reporting processes.  

Essential Skills include: 

  • Experience working with children (in child development, education, health promotion or sport and active recreation context) and/or relevant tertiary qualification 

  • Strong knowledge of child development as it relates to early childhood and primary aged children 

  • Skilled and experienced in identifying and developing strong relationships, demonstrating leadership and the ability to relate to people at all levels 

  • Experience in planning, managing and prioritising multiple and competing tasks, with strong attention to detail 

  • Understanding of the sport and active recreation system in a New Zealand context 

 

Excellent written English is a must. The candidate will need a full, clean driver’s license.
