Cook - Early Learning Centre

The Cooks in our Early Learning Centres are a vital part of the Early Learning Centre team as they are responsible for preparing food for the children in our Centres on a daily basis. 

We strive to provide nutritious and delicious meals and snacks to support physical and mental development. We encourage healthy eating habits and offer a balanced menu to keep the children well fuelled throughout the day. The children also love being involved in food preparation and where possible, we use vegetables and herbs we grow at the Centre in our meals.

As a part-time position (20 hours per week) 8.30am-12.30, Monday - Friday, this role this is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking for a part-time role and enjoys working in a fun-filled, busy environment surrounded by children.  The hourly rate offered is between $17.70-$21.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Duties

  • Preparation of morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
  • Developing and maintaining a nutritional programme that is consistent with the needs of pre-school children
  • Ensuring that food safety and hygiene best practices are maintained at all times
  • Appropriate planning and ordering of the fresh foods and supplies required for the menu whilst working within the allocated budget.

Skills and experience

  • a current recognised qualification in food preparation is preferred 
  • previous practical experience working in a kitchen/food preparation environment, including experience of menu planning,
  • a current knowledge of food hygiene and application to the preparation and serving of meals
  • ability to communicate clearly with children and adults in a multicultural environment
  • previous experience in the purchase, preparation and organisation of food and cleaning supplies
  • a current First Aid Certificate is also preferable
