HNZ has established itself as a premier helicopter-transport provider in offshore and utility operations in New Zealand, Australia, Antarctica and throughout Asia and is a growing part of the PHI Group of companies.  HNZ is owned by a United States parent company and its Head Office is based in Nelson.  HNZ’s focus is on continual expansion in the international market across a range of countries.

As a member of the Finance Team, the Assistant Accountant’s key role is to provide is to support the wider Finance Team with contract invoicing, inventory accounting, indirect tax returns and bank and balance sheet reconciliations.  

Due to the resignation of a long serving staff member who is leaving to relocate, HNZ is seeking a suitably qualified individual to fill this role.

This is a rare opportunity for an accountant looking for their next commercial role to work in a dynamic global company based in Nelson. The HNZ business has undergone considerable growth internationally over the past few years. During 2019 the company will also be implementing a range of new financial reporting platforms.  This offers exciting challenges as this role will have input and involvement in the process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Completion of compliance requirements including GST, FBT, and statistical returns, payments of loan interest and associated withholding tax.
  • Month end processing including intercompany transactions, Australian holding company accounting, Winair invoicing and end of month stock reports.
  • Delivery of high quality and easily understandable reconciliations including monthly balance sheet reconciliations, required bank reconciliations and various financial reconciliations.
  • Ensure adherence to the internal control structure and environment.
  • Backup and support to Company and Revenue Accountants and the Accounts Payable functions.

This role will ideally suit someone with the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • An accountant with 2 – 5 years with experience in:
  • Reconciling Accounts Payable statements and general Balance Sheet reconciliation processes.
  • Preparation of GST and FBT returns with a good understanding of FBT concepts in NZ and GST in both NZ and Australia.
  • Experience with FX would be advantageous.
  • Ability to prioritise and have many items of work on the go at one time.
  • Attention to detail and tenacity to see something through.
  • Good mid-range Excel and IT system skills.
  • Commitment to meeting month-end accounting deadlines and good communication where problems arise.
  • Good customer focus and commitment to continuous improvement and
  • A willingness to learn and develop.
