Support Worker

Community Living are seeking Support Workers for our Children's service where we are currently providing support for a 12 year old intellectually disabled male who has high and complex needs. Through experience, we have found the young man is best supported by males who have the ability to employ distraction techniques. The house he lives in is in Hamilton. The service has a 24/7 shift coverage on a fortnightly roster. We are looking for people with strength of character, and a genuine willingness to support young people, to work closely with this young man. The ideal candidate is healthy, physically active, has a strong presence, and some youth development experience. The role can certainly have its challenges, however, when the young man is well supported he is heaps of fun.

Essential Skills and Experience needed:

  • A full NZ drivers licence
  • Experience working with challenging behaviours
  • Great de-escalation skills
  • Personal qualities of resilience, empathy, respect, patience, honesty, and confidence
  • Excellent communication and technology skills
  • A passion for supporting people who have a disability
  • The right to legally work in New Zealand for at least 12 months

The New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing qualification (Levels 2, 3 and/or 4) or equivalent, is an advantage.  However people with the right values, and a keen interest to learn will be genuinely considered. Community Living offers ongoing training, development and coaching.

The positions are full-time for 60 to 80 hours a fortnight, on a roster, plus some sleepovers.

If this sounds like you, click 'apply for this job' to apply online today, including both a cover letter and your resume/CV.

The health and wellbeing of our employees and the people we support is very important to us, and as such Community Living is a smoke-free environment, and operates a drug and alcohol free workplace, where we have a random testing programme for all employees.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency, or a valid NZ work visa for at least 12 months.
