People & Performance Advisor

Make no bones about it - the infrastructure construction industry is facing an unprecedented skills shortage, so we’re looking for nothing less than an HR guru to come in and help us sort it!

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR/People Advisor at our Higgins HQ in East Tamaki, Auckland, overseeing branches and maintenance contracts in Auckland, Waikato, Christchurch and Nelson.

As a vital part of the management team you will play a key part in all aspects of HR, working to create a positive people culture. To be successful you will need to be a positive ‘people’ person with a high level of enthusiasm and motivation, plus:

  • A tertiary qualification in HR, Business or a related field
  • Extensive knowledge of the New Zealand HR legislative framework
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in a related industry in recruiting and training and development of field employees would be highly desirable
  • Previous employee relations experience in civil infrastructure, contracting or similar commercial environment an advantage
  • The ability to pick up complex systems quickly

Due to the autonomy of the role, we’re after a confident self-starter with the initiative and drive to create strategic people-focused initiatives at all levels of our organisation including:

  • Providing functional leadership and support ensuring Higgins people, policies and processes are applied consistently
  • Recruitment and retainment of quality employees 
  • Ensuring performance management, learning & development and career development processes are applied consistently
  • Assisting leaders in successful resolution of employee relations issues
