This is an exciting role within the organisation that will see you providing technical advice and leadership within our growing Sustainability and Resilience team. The role will primarily involve advising clients and internal teams on sustainability and climate change measures to help our clients to transition to a net-zero emission and climate resilient future.

Our sustainability team comprises a group of enthusiastic engaged professionals and is looking for a like-minded collaborative individual to join the team. You will have the opportunity to lead a wide range of sustainability, climate change and resilience related projects; as well as mentor the more junior staff within the team.

AECOM provides a great place to work, where we place a high priority on a positive culture, fun and an engaging work environment. We offer career development and mentoring, as well as social and wellbeing opportunities. AECOM has been recognised for our commitment to gender equity, value diversity and has a genuine focus on flexibility. In this role, you will be an integral part of a high performing team helping to build and expand our New Zealand practice.

Key responsibilities:

This senior role requires that you lead project teams in developing innovative sustainability and climate change solutions to help organisations to transition to a net-zero GHG emission future and climate resilience, whilst balancing client objectives. You will be responsible for managing project workflows and deliver on commitments to the highest standard. The primary focus of this role is to deliver climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, resilience, and policy advisory services to a wide range of public and private sector clients. The role also involves business development with regards to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.

You will:

  • Lead the delivery of sustainability and climate change mitigation and adaptation projects to achieve excellent and sustainable outcomes for our clients
  • Collaborate with peers and support junior team members
  • Develop climate action plans and strategies to identify objectives and targets for implementation for communities and organisations.
  • Facilitate innovative multi-disciplinary and stakeholder workshops as part of solution design and action planning for clients.
  • Generate strategic partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders and clients.
  • Provide industry leadership through attending and presenting at industry and AECOM events.
  • Plan projects to ensure key deliverable and financial performance metrics are met.

About you

You are an enthusiastic individual with a commitment to both individual and team continued professional development. Ideally, you are a forward-thinking and commercial-minded individual with technical foundations and an interest in sustainability outside of the workforce.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a Master of Science, Master of Environmental Science or equivalent degree
  • Have ideally 12+ years of relevant working experience in a climate change, resilience or sustainability role and have demonstrated experience in climate change mitigation and adaptation; including an understanding of current global trends and legislation.

We are flexible about the years of experience required so if this role sounds like you, please apply and we can assess from there!

  • Be passionate about sustainable development and a low-carbon future and have a strong drive in fostering change for the better
  • Have in-depth knowledge of national and global climate change issues, policies and solutions
  • Be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal), and have proven client relationships
  • Be client facing and have an outcome-oriented approach to project delivery.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for the quality of deliverables and meeting deadlines.
  • Willing to travel as required.

Your technical skills and experience will include a number of the following:

  • Modeling the impacts of climate change
  • Undertaking carbon assessments for communities, organisations, projects or products
  • Climate adaptation and resilience risk assessments and planning.
