People Leader - Developers

This scaling product company is looking for someone to lead the effort to design, build and deploy. You will be instrumental in the performance of the team to ensure that they meet the needs of the business while limiting technical debt and advancing the culture. Bring your relentless drive for results and help deliver on the platform vision.

Who you are:
You have experience as a leader of people for large scale projects. You have the technical chops to deep dive on support issues when called upon as well as soft skills necessary to lead architecture discussions, drive new initiatives and hire/develop talented engineers.

What you will do:
  • Hire and develop top talent within your own team and participate in hiring across other teams.
  • Provide coaching on relevant competencies for the engineers in your own team and others as needed.
  • Act as a catalyst to drive your staff’s career development by providing actionable feedback, coaching and finding opportunities within and outside of your team.
  • Drive your team to innovate and deliver roadmap features with agility and high quality.
  • Ensure a set of development practices are followed to assure quality and long-term health of the services your team owns.
  • Perform reviews of all designs to make sure that they address failure modes, scalability, security and are suitable.
  • Work with the product and program management team to maintain a roadmap for your team.
  • Run meetings, create and maintain timelines, and keep large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Leadership: Demonstrates honesty and integrity. Able to set objectives and goals with loose guidelines/directions. Clearly communicates expectations. Has an open mind and the flexibility to change opinions. Able to develop and supports others.
  • Line management: Able to collaboratively work with direct reports to set meaningful performance objectives; to identify the behaviours, knowledge and skills required to achieve goals; and to ensure opportunities for professional development are available. Able to hold direct reports to high levels of accountability. Good performance is recognised and celebrated. Poor performance is managed promptly and effectively.
  • Skillful coach/mentor: Able to offer the right knowledge, at the right time, in the right way — understanding why and how people learn.
  • Highly experienced in leading/managing product teams; and knowledge of growing, managing and working with remote teams.
  • Excellent grasp of modern product management and development
    practices and lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to navigate areas of conflict in an open, positive and
    proactive way.
