Working for Porirua City is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in our community. You'll be part of a team that's collaborative, values input and empowers your development.

This exciting opportunity will allow you to gain practical experience and earn a trade qualification. You will need to have a passion for plants and working outdoors. While with us, you will be part of the team that maintains our gardens and flower beds around the city.

While working in the Horticultural team, you will be:

  • involved in helping to maintain the city's gardens and flower beds
  • studying and getting on the job training to work towards your level 4 NZQA qualification
  • moving around the different Horticultural teams to gain the fundamental experience needed to become a Gardener.

The apprenticeship is a three year fixed-term position where you work, get paid and follow a study programme towards a trade qualification.

You'll need to show us that you:

  • have a positive attitude
  • have enthusiasm and drive to learn amenity horticulture
  • are organised to manage your programmed studies
  • have a clean driver's licence (full licence is preferred)
  • have some experience or a strong interest in gardening or a related field of amenity horticulture.
