Early Childhood Education Regional Academic Staff Member - Two Positions

The Open Polytechnic is New Zealand's specialist provider of vocational education delivered in an open distance flexible learning (ODFL) modality.

The Early Childhood Education programmes are seeking Academic Staff Members for the Auckland and Northland regions. The position includes visiting students on Practicum in the Auckland and Northland regions, as well as delivering blended, face to face and online courses for the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.

The Regional Academic Staff Member will bring subject matter expertise and experience as a teacher in the Early Childhood Education and Tertiary sector to provide expert facilitation and teaching to the Polytechnic's students. With online learning becoming the predominant future delivery model, teaching will move towards working with learners at scale in a way that will effectively utilise in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of education technology, complemented by mastery of digitally enabled education techniques and practices.

These positions will be based in the Auckland and Northland regions on a working from home policy.

Academic Staff are responsible for:

  • Teaching courses in the ODFL modality utilising interactive technology and best practice professional standards for online distance learning
  • Assessing students in Practicum
  • Delivering face to face workshops and tutorials
  • Using innovative technology and appropriate interactive teaching strategies to facilitate student learning
  • Providing students with targeted and specific support that develops their knowledge and understanding of subject matter
  • Undertaking research that informs the subject area in which you are teaching.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant post graduate, preferably Masters or higher
  • Teacher Registration
  • Education or teaching qualification, preferably in open distant flexible learning (ODFL)
  • Practical (industry) experience in the appropriate discipline
  • The ability to facilitate online learning at scale using digital technologies
  • Willingness to learn and apply new technologies in the design and delivery of distance education.
