Women’s Refuge Whanganui is seeking an individual for the role of Lease Emergency Housing Navigator.  This role would include managing lease emergency housing properties and providing social work support to assist clients in finding long term housing. Part of the role will involve referring and connecting clients to other social services to enable them to succeed in long term housing placements. Liaising with stakeholders to establish and maintain positive working relationships is a key part of the role.


This is a supportive role, assisting clients to achieve the goal of long term housing, it requires empathy but also the ability to work to targets and within tight timeframes and work alongside internal and external colleagues to find the best outcomes for our clients.


Essential requirements:

Background in social services.

Ability to work with a broad range of people.

Ability to work within tight timeframes.

A full New Zealand driving licence

Strong computer skills, the ability to cope with competing demands on your time as well as strong personal and professional boundaries

As you will be working for Women’s Refuge Whanganui you would need to have lived a violence free life for two years.


Desirable requirements:

A social work qualification and either a current registration or the ability to work towards registration.

Flexible, confident and assertive communicator.

Passionate about working within the Whanganui Women’s Refuge family.

Strong problem solving skills, the ability to think quickly and a proven ability to connect with the community

A non judgemental and positive attitude to encourage clients to change and grow.

This field is a dynamic and ever changing environment often with challenges, so we will require someone with a good grasp of time management and strong people skills.

This is a 30 hour a week role over Monday to Fridays.

Fixed term until 2021
