Waikato District Health Board – Chief Executive Officer
The Role | Ngā Kawenga Takohanga
The Chief Executive will join the Waikato DHB at a critical juncture where cultural and strategic leadership is required. They will be responsible for engaging widely across stakeholders to communicate and then operationalise a sustainable vision for the future that emphasises equity of access and of outcomes, places patients at the core of all activity and is delivered in relationship with the broad community of iwi, NGOs and PHOs.
This role requires leadership of change that is fundamental to the long-term effectiveness of the DHB. With a strategy in place, the Chief Executive will work across the organisation to lift culture and across stakeholders to deliver sustainable results that are whānau-focused and proactive toward health trends decades into the future.

Complementing commercial acumen and business leadership ability, the Chief Executive will be a champion of the Waikato DHB and its population as someone who believes in the mission of the organisation and its role in the success of the Waikato region socially and economically. The Chief Executive will be a personable, visible leader with a clear empathy for health who can engender an inclusive culture and encourage an environment for feedback and sharing of ideas at the frontline. As someone with real mana and humility, they must demonstrate an engaging character of leadership in relating to all stakeholders to the business – be they internal or external – and have the conviction to enact radical change that endures.
Note that experience in the public health sector is advantageous but not a firm requirement.
