We are Mark and Laura Manson, of Hangtown Ltd, farming Matuku farm in Golden Bay, which is located at the top of the South Island, in East Takaka, which is 10 minutes from the Takaka township. (Takaka is about 2 hours from Nelson, over the Takaka Hill, near the Abel Tasman National Park.) We are looking for an experienced Assistant Manager, with a current Driver’s license who is legally able to work in NZ. There is a 3 bedroom house available to rent, with a small garden and playhouse, and the school bus picks up at the gate for Central Takaka Primary and for the Golden Bay Highschool. Matuku is a beautiful, established farm, on flat land. We use low input farming methods and do not irrigate. The farm was being run for the last three years by a contract milker. However the situation has changed, and we are returning to employment. This position will start on 1st of June, but move dates are flexible.
We milk 370 cows, in an internal rotary, which requires the successful applicant to be of good physical fitness. The successful applicant will be a good communicator, and able to assist with the management of staff, and keep accurate records of hours worked. Pasture management, feed budgets, weed control, fencing, record keeping, health and safety, Milking and avoiding grading, Dairy Hygiene, Stock management, bloat management, Calving and Mating management and knowledge, Reporting, Recording, Environmental management, maintaining farm vehicles, equipment and accommodation, etc.
Successful applicant will work very well in a team, be solution focused and positive.
About the position-
This will be a rostered, permanent position, paid an hourly rate, with minimum and maximum hours of work. We believe that farming life should be sustainable, and hope to offer a good rate, with good time off, and the ability for the successful applicant to have a life outside of work. There is no point of living in a beautiful area if you can’t go outside and play!!!
