Active & Well Coordinator

Based at Tokoroa, the ideal candidate will work as part of the wider Active & Well team to promote physical activity and nutrition via delivery of green prescriptions.   Active & Well is a Sport Waikato programme and the Green Prescription service is funded through Waikato DHB.

The Active & Well coordinator’s main role is to educate and encourage individuals and groups to embrace healthier lifestyles with an emphasis on exercise and physical activity, healthy eating and smoking cessation. The coordinator will adhere to Ministry of Health guidelines for nutrition and physical activity. This will be achieved by working through Active & Well procedures and processes to support individuals and whaanau with healthy lifestyle changes, mainly in the South Waikato District.  

This rewarding and demanding role is office based as coaching is predominantly provided by telephone, email, face to face sessions, home visits and workshops. A car will be provided as this role does involve travel within the South Waikato district and potentially other Waikato districts. Flexibility to work in different communities, offices and spaces will be essential as will the ability to work confidently with Maaori in Maaori settings.

This role will also have a component of working with medical centres, promoting Green Prescription and offering clinics within those medical centres as needed. There is a wider facilitation component to the role involving educational workshops, development and support of a range of healthy lifestyle activities and events for individuals and workplaces.

The ability to creatively promote our programme within the community and maintain a large client base is essential.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Qualification and experience in the physical activity and/or healthy lifestyle fields.
  • Demonstrable sound knowledge of health issues, such as obesity and diabetes.
  • Provide culturally appropriate ideas and support for Maaori clients and whaanau in the South Waikato area.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a proven understanding of relationship development and the ability to work with all people, health professionals and the community.

This knowledge will be supported by excellent presentation, administration and organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a team. The ideal candidate will also be competent with major software packages and preferably have experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
