Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Trades Assistant to join their supportive team based in Hamilton.

The role

Northpower is looking to appoint a full-time Trades Assistant to perform a range of tasks required for site preparation and assist with works as directed. Working closely with the Maintenance Team, the appointee will work across a variety of tasks such as trench digging, equipment and cable installation, movement of materials, helping with planned maintenance repairs, delivering materials and other manual tasks.

With such variety of work, there will be some requirement for overtime, weekend work and away trips depending on the projects and the workload. The appointee will need to be flexible with shift timings as a lot of the work is restricted around outages. There will also be frequent travel across the Waikato area.

This role will suit candidates who come from a solid' hands-on' background and who are not fazed by leaning new tasks and skills. You will need to be a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills, be able to cope with the physical demands of the role, have an excellent attendance and safety record and a clean New Zealand Driver's Licence.

Duties:

  • General labour work including trench digging, equipment and cable installation and movement of materials
  • Carry out planned maintenance work and repairs at the level of a Trades Assistant
  • Undertake oil and water testing, oil inspections
  • Work at heights on Elevated Work Platforms for cleaning equipment, changing bolts and nuts
  • Able to sign on to permits as required
  • Hazard Identification
  • Meet customer and regulatory requirements
  • Adherence to best practices
  • Maintain field paperwork, reports and inspection documentation
  • Compliance with health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements

Skills and experience:

  • New Zealand full class 1 driver's licence required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced in heavy labouring and enjoyment of working outdoors
  • EWP ticket, an advantage
  • Previous experience in electrical/ power industry will be an advantage
  • Good literacy skills to be able to read and understand construction plans
  • Reliable, good communicator and have a safety-first attitude
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • The ability to work unsupervised within a team environment
