Senior Resource Consents Planner

The Resource Consents team is committed to building a sustainable future for the Hutt City. They process both land use and subdivisions consents, undertake compliance monitoring and create Land Information Memorandum (LIM) reports.

Due to growth and expansion they are offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Planner to further develop their skills and ability to assess environmental impacts.

Reporting to the Team Leader Resource Consents, you will be responsible for assessing the environmental effects of activities and development to achieve the best environmental outcomes for the Hutt City, which will include:

  • Processing non-notified resource consents in line with statutory responsibilities, District Plan provisions and Council procedures
  • Assess environmental and regulatory consent applications for completeness prior to lodgement with Council
  • Answering phone and counter enquires relating to District Plan and other environmental legislation and regulations
  • Presenting resource consents for consideration at Council Committee meetings, and presenting expert evidence at Court on environmental matters
  • Leading pre-application and pre-hearing meeting
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including members of the public and professional groups on provisions of the District Plan
  • Supervising the processing of planning input into LIMS and building consents
  • Providing advice to graduate and other planners on all planning matters  

This is a permanent full time position based in Lower Hutt. Ideally, 40 hours per week with plenty of flexibility to work around your schedule.

To be considered for this role, you will be an experienced Resource Consents Planner or Town Planner with a broad background in resource management, planning and development. Strong communication skills, an eye for detail and the ability to take a development off the ground and work across the wider business are essential.

Person Profile:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Planning or relevant qualification
  • Eligible for a NZ Planning Institute (NZPI) membership
  • Knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Resource Management Act 1991, the Local Government Act 1974 and 2002 and other relevant legislation 
  • Familiar with the assessment of environmental effects (AEE) 
  • Ability to interpret plans, regulations and by-laws, administrative procedures, and the maintenance of records, filing systems, and information systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Customer focused and positive attitude
  • Good computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong relationship building capabilities and interpersonal skills
