About the role

    Cooks in our Early Learning Centres are a vital part of the team, as they are responsible for providing nutritious and appealing snacks and meals for children on a daily basis. 

    This part-time position (18 hours per week) is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy, fun-filled environment.

    Duties

    • Preparation of morning and afternoon tea and lunch each day
    • Developing and maintaining a nutritional programme that is consistent with the needs of pre-school children
    • Ensuring that food safety and hygiene best practices are maintained at all times
    • Appropriate planning and ordering of the fresh foods and supplies required for the menu, working within the allocated budget.

    Skills and experience

    • A current, recognised qualification in food preparation is preferred but training could be provided
    • Previous practical experience working in a kitchen/food preparation environment, including experience menu planning
    • Current knowledge of food hygiene and its application to the preparation and serving of meals
    • Ability to communicate clearly with children and adults in a multicultural environment
    • Previous experience in the purchase, preparation and organisation of food and cleaning supplies
