Technical Officer - Alcohol Licensing

The Council's Alcohol Licensing team, in conjunction with various external partnership agencies, are responsible for maintaining our delivery of a high quality alcohol licensing service to our customers in the industry and the people of Christchurch. Our team are here to make sure that the legislative side is under control.

In this administrative support role, you'll manage the day to day receiving and end to end processing of licensing applications. This includes supporting our team of alcohol licensing inspectors and liaising with our hearings team. As the direct point of call for customer questions, you'll be comfortable dealing with enquiries and will have the know-how to discuss technical information and explaining processes or escalate to the team if you don't.

With daily contact from internal and external customers you'll have a strong customer service skills and be able to explain information in an easy to understand way. You'll conduct assessment interviews for new manager's applications, but don't worry, we'll train you to ensure you are equipped to be the subject matter expert. What you'll bring is a logical, solutions-focused, practical way of thinking and an eye for detail.

This is an office-based administrative role, and you'll have worked in a regulatory or enforcement environment with experience in understanding and applying legislation. You'll appreciate the level of confidentiality and impartiality that a role of this nature involves, and will have an understanding of legislative timelines and that the nature of the work that we do has compliance implications.

Our team works with various databases which involves data entry and moving through workflows, so you'll have a good ability with computer and keyboard skills with a high degree of accuracy. An ability to prioritise work is essential.
