The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) supports the Governor-General in her role as the representative of New Zealand's Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II, and to fulfil important constitutional, ceremonial, community and international roles.

The team at Government House is responsible for the day to day management, control, maintenance, preservation and enhancement of the buildings, grounds and assets of Government House Wellington and Government House Auckland, as well as providing a unique and comprehensive household and hospitality service to Their Excellencies and guests as their official residences and venue for Official events.

The role

You will work closely with Team Leader/Custodian Government House Auckland, Wait staff, household staff and kitchen staff on a variety of hospitality tasks. This position will require staff to:

  • Provide daily domestic support services to Their Excellencies.
  • Provide high quality hospitality to Their Excellencies and their guests.
  • Liaise and work with other members of Government House, particularly Household, Kitchen staff at Government House Auckland.
  • Liase and work closely with Programme and Events team based in Government House Wellington assisting the co-ordinating and the delivery of events.
  • Engage with and maintain supplier relationships including contract administration
  • Promote the Office and Household of the Governor-General through co-operative internal working relationships and handling external contacts with discretion and efficiency.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in high end hospitality
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to Government House procedures.
  • The utmost standards of punctuality, reliability, honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to work as a team and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • A flexible working style and strong attention to detail.
  • A commitment to the provision of quality service.
  • Able to maintain a high standard of personal presentation at all times.

We need someone who is flexible and available 7 days a week for a rotating roster and if required have the availability to work and travel to Government House Wellington.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a confidential security clearance. This requires you to New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residence, and to have spent the last 5 years in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the US, or Canada.
