Airport Emergency Services Officer

The Auckland Airport Emergency Service is a department of Auckland Airport and employs approximately 64 firefighters whose responsibility it is to provide and maintain rescue and firefighting coverage at Auckland Airport. In addition to the fire coverage we provide for the airfield, we also operate as an industrial Fire Brigade and respond together with the Fire and Emergency New Zealand to look after both the International and Domestic terminals as well as the numerous commercial, industrial and retail premises that employ approximately 14,000 people Airport wide. We are also the first response for any medical emergencies that occur at Auckland Airport.

The key responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Responding to any emergencies in and round the Auckland Airport environs
  • Responding to any emergencies on the Manukau Harbour together with New Zealand Police and Coastguard
  • Making decisions fast with effective outcomes
  • Ensuring compliance with NZ and international civil aviation requirements
  • Building relationships with both internal and external partners

The key skills required for this role include the following:

  • Ability to balance emergency readiness with day to day tasks
  • High standard of fitness
  • Trained Swimmer
  • Effective team player
  • Great people skills
  • Dynamic and motivated

Pre-requisites for the role include the following:

  • Full Class Two heavy motor vehicle license - available through Private training Establishments like Master Drive, NZ Training and Assessment etc
  • Air NZ Cabin Crew swim certificate - available through several local swimming pools. (To be produced during Assessments)

Apart from being one of the most exciting working environments in New Zealand, we offer medical insurance, life insurance, income protection insurance, 10 days sick leave per year, long service entitlements and a competitive salary. Please note that if you are selected to attend the 'pre-employment fitness testing' you must be in Auckland and available on the 03 and 04 of May .

Please note successful applicants will go through a fully paid 15 week training program.
