Job Ref: 27930

Te Maioha o Parekarangi Youth Justice Residence, Rotorua

Oranga Tamariki is committed to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of everything we do.

If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of at-risk young people, join our supportive team who are fully committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people, whanau and the community.

Te Maioha o Parekarangi is a 24/7 secure residential facility, working with young males aged 13-17 years who have offended, and are on remand, or sentenced via the Youth Court. Our ultimate goal is to help every tamaiti we work with to realise their potential. We assist our tamariki with transition into education, training, or employment, and to a safe and stable living arrangement when they leave our care.

We are seeking a Trades/Handyperson to join our Support Services Team. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8.00 am - 4.30 pm).

In this busy and varied role, you will support health, safety, security and daily operations of the residence by providing a high-quality and responsive buildings, grounds, property, plant, vehicle and resource support service. This will include booking in and escorting specialist trade contractors whilst on site; maintaining a safe and damage-free environment with daily checks completed, data analysed, and reports prepared; carrying out allocated minor work to keep the site safe and tidy; and identifying and escalating Property risks and issues.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An understanding of health, safety and security.
  • Resilience, reliability, honesty and common-sense.
  • An ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of staff and stakeholders.
  • To be flexible and adaptable in your work practices.
  • Good computer literacy (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • A full clean New Zealand drivers’ licence
  • To meet the Vulnerable Children’s Act safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements (this includes a full Police Check).
  • To be fit and healthy - able to work outside and stand for most of the day if required (when escorting contractors and completing routine maintenance and grounds work).

Applications close: Friday, 29 March 2019.
