The New Zealand Customs Service hosts the National Maritime Coordination Centre (NMCC), a multi-agency team that coordinates maritime patrol tasking for civil agencies. The National Maritime Coordination Centre is co-located at Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand in Trentham, Wellington.

The overall objectives of the NMCC are to maximise the effectiveness of New Zealand's maritime patrol and surveillance assets; to ensure the best possible use of available information and to enable a whole of government approach to maritime security.

As the result of parental leave, there is an opportunity for a six month fixed term position to be filled. Reporting to the NMCC Maritime Operations Manager this role will be responsible for the day to day operational coordination of maritime patrols for the NMCC and its customers. The NMCC Maritime Operations Officer is an integral team member. As the NMCC Maritime Operations Officer you will provide some administrative support to the NMCC team.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • An exceptional ability to organise their own work and documentation in a methodical, efficient manner ensuring issues are dealt with quickly.
  • Strong analytical skills with an enquiring mind.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a professional manner.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing operational needs across the agencies.

To join Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident*. Due to the nature of Customs' work all candidates must have a clear Police record. Security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs before job offers are made. Successful applicants are also required to pass a drug test and medical assessment, they must also hold a full driver licence.

(*) you need to have continuously resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years, or in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom or United States. You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.

To be successful, you need to hold and maintain a current a Top Secret security clearance.
