We are looking for a Business Accountant to join our Management Accounting team in Wellington.

 

About MPI

 

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is responsible for ‘Growing and Protecting New Zealand'. It's no mean feat and we have a team of hard working and dedicated people in a variety of roles supporting us to make this happen!

 

To assist and support MPI's goals, we have a fantastic opportunity in Wellington for someone to join our Management Accounting team within the Finance, Property and Procurement directorate as a Business Accountant. You will join a supportive team that take pride in their work and strive for excellence.

 

About the role

 

This role is responsible for providing trusted financial and management accounting advice and support to influence, and quickly gain the trust and credibility with the management and budget holders.  The role will develop an understanding of these business groups, provide high quality financial information to managers as well as contribute to ongoing financial business improvement solutions. 

 

You will have previous experience working with senior managers and budget holders to deliver timely and accurate information and analysis, as well as accounting functions including variance analysis, budget and forecast setting and reporting.

 

Ideally you will have

 

  • A tertiary qualification and membership of a professional accounting body.
  • Experience in managing relationships and consultation with an assortment of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in Central Government financial management processes and procedures including sound understanding of the Public Finance Act.
  • Experience in analysing and advising on business decisions with financial impact.

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

You will also be quick to grasp problems and identify solutions. Knowledge of Finance One would be an advantage.
